Get animated with upcoming games Kung Fu Panda 2 and Smurfs Dance Party
It’s become pretty routine for kids’ movies to have accompanying licensed video games, but two that are coming our way in the next few months, want to get players moving around as much as the characters on screen.
First there is Kung Fu Panda 2 for Kinect, which is due to be released toward the end of this month to tie in with the sequel to Kung Fu Panda. According to the Amazon description, you can “engage in physical combat or utilize strategy and problem solving skills”. No mention of a workout mode, but everybody knows you burn more fat by punching and kicking your enemies than strategizing about them. The game is made by THQ which will be releasing UFC Personal Trainer around the same time.
If you’d rather dance than fight, then there is Smurfs Dance Party, coming in July along with a new Smurfs movie. Now Smurfs aren’t exactly the first characters to come to mind when I think of dance games (if anything, a Kung Fu Panda dance game seems more appropriate) but then I read the plot summary on IMDB – in a sort of ripoff of Disney’s Enchanted, the blue ones get chased by bad guy Gargamel into New York City. So maybe they dance their way out of trouble on a Broadway stage, or something.
Amazon has very little info, but Joystiq has some “leaked” info and pictures of Smurfs Dance Party. The alleged screenshots look very much like Michael Jackson the Experience for Wii, made by the same company, Ubisoft. Even better news, the developer is the same one that made We Cheer! I hope it becomes a trend to make active games that tie in with movies, so you can move for a couple of hours to make up for all that theater-sitting.
